Tribute to the World Trade Center by Lance Lensfield
36 unpublished and published photographs out of the coffeetablebook "New York",
published by teNeues (2002)
The first part of this exhibition shows images of the World Trade Center (WTC) taken between 1996 and 2001 by Lensfield. The presented images show how the WTC has influenced the typical look of the New Yorker skyline. The WTC was always a significant landmark for the people and for Lensfield himself, who "never got lost" on his photo shoots without any annoying maps in his hands. But the WTC was more than that, it was a symbol for prosperity and trade. The WTC reflected the symbiosis of architecture and money, but not only to the American society, it showed the whole world the power of the American dream.
Lensfield took his last shots of the WTC end of May 2001.
The second part of the exhibit shows the WTC shortly after the 9-11, ruins which were still filled with fog, the rescue workers, firemen and all sorts of policewomen and /-men who were involved to handle the disaster. Lensfield took a close look on to the people of New York as well, their mourning and hope combined with an omnipresent patriotism, "united we stand"!
All photographs of this part were taken in September 2001.
