Reflections by Lance Lensfield a.k.a. Stefan May
36 unpublished and published photographs out of the coffeetablebook "New York",
by teNeues (2002)
Lensfield collected his images out of various pools like Berlin, New York, Paris, The English Garden and others. The favorite mediums for his "reflections" are water and glass.
Once it happened in New York, a woman came out of her office and saw Lensfield bent over a puddle with his camera right on the street. "What the hell are you doing?", she asked. He showed her the Empire State Building as a reflection in the puddle, which could be seen from a certain angle only. "Wow, I never took notice of these reflections, terrific, please send me this image!", she said with a big smile on her face.
Reflections are all around, we just have to notice them not only when having a look into the mirror. Some reflections like in puddles come and go, puddles appear in undefined spots and disappear again. Water as a liquid medium deforms the reflected objects when it starts to move in a nearly unlimited way.
Reflections in windows of buildings are different, windows are a kind of stable medium, but not less interesting, it's always a matter of the right angle, the light and the reflected objects.
