Men by Stefan May
36 of 118 photographs out of the coffeetablebook "Men", published by teNeues (2003)
"A man cannot photograph men" - whoever said this does not know Stefan May, the German photographer who like no other gets so close to his models, treats them so uncompromisingly harsh, but at the same time acts with such emotion and sensitivity.
(...) Anyone who has ever seen an original print of one of his photographs knows what that his love of craftsmanship is close to a doctrine. He is concerned with no less than the "soul" of of the photo. It must be "alive"... perceptible, even with absolutely perfect processing of his exclusively hand made prints.
(...) Via Stefan May, pictures in the tradition of Frantisek Dritikol, of Man Ray, Horst P. Horst or Herb Ritts become new born. For their naturalness and openness, powerful and sensitive men seek to be admired and loved by women and men alike.
