Dorothee Falke

Dorothee Falke was born in 1953 in Paderborn/Germany and came to Munich in 1975 to study fashion art design at the master school of fashion. After she had completed her diploma, she was working as a fashion editor for the publishing house Burda over ten years and for another ten years freelance for several/various publishing houses and magazines.During these years working as a fashion editor she was responsible for planning photo productions, selecting photos, always working closely together with the photographers. For someone who has spent so much time with photography and who is also predisposed by family members (her brother is also a successful photographer in NY), probably has to end up doing photography herself, so did Dorothee Falke.
She started with theater photography, portraited artists like Peter Ustinov and has abided by the theater until today. Due to her enthusiasm for music "I grew up with the Beatles" it didn't take long until she went to the concert halls and stadions, the venues of great rock- and pop-concerts - and she, Dorothee Falke, was always close-up with her camera.
During the past eight years of doing concert photography she has gathered a remarkable number of wonderful artist portraits, like for example of James Brown, B.B. King etc. Her affection for the analogue black and white technique and for the work in the darkroom where she enlarges her photos herself, gives the individual special look to her photographs. Dorothee Falke lives and works as a freelance photographer in Munich.
